The full list of games as of this post, provided by DTS, is as follows: That also means that the list of games specifically designed to be enhanced by Microsoft’s spatial sound, and thus Headphone: X, is somewhat short.

Headphone: X uses Microsoft’s spatial sound technology, so it is only available for Xbox consoles and Windows PCs. When it comes to specific games, there are only a handful of games that have been optimized to get the most out of DTS Headphone: X so far. The audio sounds much more realistic, rounded and, for lack of a better word, “fresh.” Hell, even the little popping sounds the Xbox makes when it jumps on the home screen sound more punchy and full compared to the standard uncompressed stereo option. It seems a bit obvious to say that things sound “better” with DTS Headphone: X on, but it’s true. How do DTS Unbound and DTS Headphone: X Sound sound? It’s not full head-tracking 3D audio like something from Audeze Mobius, but it’s spatial audio that allows gamers to use their ears as much as their eyes when gaming. These sources are located in different directions relative to the player, which means that the sounds will appear to be coming from those directions. To keep this very simple, it means that the sound is interpreted by Xbox as individual sources. Once activated, Headphone: X creates an object-based soundstage rather than an audio-based one. It only affects the quality of the headphones. It should be noted that purchasing a license for Headphone: X will have no impact on the audio coming out of the TV speakers or any stereo system connected to an Xbox. This changes the audio stream coming out of the headphone jack of an Xbox controller. Once a license is purchased, Headphone: X can be selected from the Xbox settings menu. DTS Headphone: X is really where the magic begins.
